The coveted bronze Bathsheba is missing, a man is murdered and his wife disappears; can one woman untangle the web of events which surrounds this mystery or will she too become a part of it In The Bathsheba Connection, a petty gangster is brutally murdered. His wife, the model Veronique, has disappeared along with a mysterious bronze statue of Bathsheba. Goldie, an inquisitive, retired New York City teacher and failed painter, discovers the murder. Determined to find her missing friend, she becomes entangled in three other murders. Her search, helped by a quirky photographic memory, leads her into sinister corners of the City of Lights. Russian gangsters and other unsavory characters pursue her in the mistaken belief that she knows where the statue is hidden. Even after she is kidnapped and held in a rat-infested cellar, she persists in her quest. She is also suspected and hounded by the bumbling Inspector Potiron (the pumpkin head) with his odd misunderstanding of the English language. Why are so many people obsessed with the statue? What does the couturier, who lives across the street, know? What connection does the picture of a blond boy in a hovel in Pigalle have to do with the bizarre resolution of the murders?
